Eight Belles - Euthanized after finishing 2nd.

Eight Belles life came to a tragic end at the Kentucky Deby yesterday, with Big Brown delivering the goods and winning the race in front of the enthusiastic crowd.
As Big Brown was getting her glory and being draped in roses, Eight Belles, who had broken both front ankles was being euthanized, the first horse to die in its history. The Kentucky Derby, which saw the following horses finish,

1st.Big Brown
2nd. Eight Belles
3rd. Denis of Cork

Over 157,000 people watched the race, the biggest crowd since 1974. The death ofEight Belles, cast a huge dark cloud over the race and the spectators, the death of Eight Belles, ran by Gabriel Saez, started to have problems after passing the wire, she slowed up and thats when Gabriel knew their was a problem, "After we passed the wire, I stood up,'' Saez said in a statement. "She started galloping funny and I tried to pull her up, but she went down"

Winner Big Brown, will now be heading to Baltimore for the Preakness Stakes, followed by New York for the Belmont Stakes.
